What Is The Difference Between Renewable Energy And Renewable Energy Technology?

April 30, 2021

Energy is all around us. It’s in the environment, at home, at your workplace, and down to the tiny cells that make your body function properly. It’s what makes the world tick. Every day, fossil fuel reserves are gradually depleted, and humanity will soon have to turn to renewable energy sources for sustainable development, growth, and daily use.

Thankfully, we can obtain cheaper, cleaner fuel for our machines with renewable energy and save the planet from the dangers of pollution or worse. Renewable energy can be used as the primary power source for home appliances, gadgets, and Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy devices like this one from Pulsed Energy Technologies. Thanks to its versatility, it can be incorporated into our daily lives as a reliable power source.

What’s Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is primarily obtained from natural processes that occur frequently. It’s the clean energy obtained from replenishable natural activities such as wind, sunlight, tides, geothermal activity, etc. Unlike coal, oil, and gas – which cannot be replenished in little to no time – renewable energy sources are restored at the rate at which they’re consumed or even faster.

This means sustainable energy to the foreseeable future. While renewable energy has been around for centuries, the processes involved in harnessing it for other uses are somewhat different from what ancient generations had.

More About Renewable Energy Technology

Renewable energy technologies are the tools and equipment used to convert natural phenomena into sustainable energy. They’re the tools that enable humankind to make heat, fuel, and electricity from replenishable energy sources. For instance, hydroelectric power, solar, wind, geothermal systems, and bioenergy use different technologies to generate a substantial energy demand.

Renewable energy technologies play a significant role when deriving clean energy from natural resources. Without them, wind, water, and solar cannot be converted into power. Thanks to HEP power plants, solar panels, and wind turbines, we can easily generate enough energy to power huge buildings, heat our homes, cool the air when it’s too hot, and even make a cup of hot coffee with clean energy.

What’s The Difference Between Renewable Energy and Renewable Energy Technology?

Renewable energy and renewable energy technologies are two sides of the same coin. People often use the two terms to refer to the same thing but did you know there’s a difference? First, renewable energy refers to the clean energy obtained from natural processes that occur every day.

On the other hand, renewable energy technology refers to the tools, machines, and equipment used to harness renewable energy and convert it into heat, electricity, and other forms of energy for transport, cooking, heating, lighting, and much more.

For instance, to convert sunlight  (solar energy) into electricity, we use solar panels made by a turning panel of interconnected photovoltaic cells into an electronic circuit. We use highly efficient wind turbines to harness wind power to convert it into electricity, which can be converted to other forms of energy.

For hydroelectric power (energy obtained from moving water, e.g., rivers and dams), we channel running water through powerful turbines and generators. Geothermal power can be obtained by pumping water deep underground where it’s hot. As the water gets hot, the water pushes back up to the surface, where it turns a few turbines to produce electricity.

In short, there are several energy forms of renewable energy, and we use them for various purposes. But to tap this energy and convert it into a suitable form we can use in our daily lives, we need specialized machines and equipment for the task.

Importance of Renewable Energy

Other than the vast diversification of energy options, renewable energy provides reliable power with minimized risks to the environment. It provides energy security where we no longer have to worry too much about depleting the existing reserves. Countries that have invested in renewable energy have cut down expenditure on importing fuel.

Greenhouse gas emissions have been a menace to our environment. Acid rain, mercury contamination, too much nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter have all been challenges that hit major cities worldwide. But with a keener interest in renewable energy, mankind has learned how to conserve the environment since there’s little to no emission with renewable energy.

Renewable energy is also essential to the provision of healthcare services. Over the years, healthcare has contributed to about 10% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. To stop climate change and further pollution, leading healthcare providers have started to shift to renewable energy.
