Why Is Water Treatment Vital to Your Health?

February 8, 2022

Water is just a simple compound with a chemical formula of H2O. Water is very important to human health and well-being. There will be no life on earth if there is no water. In reality, the human body is 70% water. However, water can be dangerous to the body if it does not undergo proper water treatment. When water is not filtered, it could contain dioxins, chlorine, fluoride, parasites, etc., which could be harmful to your health.

Why Are Water Treatments Very Important?

We can find water almost anywhere. There are different water sources, including lakes and rivers, which are contaminated and unfit for drinking. To make it drinkable, it should undergo several treatment processes to get cleaned. Water purifiers can help in reducing or getting rid of some pollutants. At the same time, they can also help improve the taste of water, for instance, by removing chlorine.

Some people say that they have been drinking unfiltered water for several years, yet they have never felt sick. Well, some diseases take time before they will show any visible signs. However, it does not mean that they are not active in your system. According to WHO, waterborne diseases such as Hepatitis A, diarrheal disease, Typhoid, Cholera, Dysentery, etc., have already killed millions of people worldwide.

What Are the Different Techniques of Purification?

Distillation

In the distillation method, the water is heated until it boils. The resulting hot vapours will be captured and cooled to condense. This condensed water from the vapours is collected. The impurities will not merge with the steam, and hence the distilled water will be clean. The distillation method is not new since it has been used for thousands of years. However, keep in mind that not all distillation equipment is created equal. If you want to treat your water by distillation, then be sure to choose advanced water purifiers to obtain good results.

Reverse Osmosis

In the reverse osmosis method, the tap water will go through a semipermeable membrane. This technique was originally intended for industrial purposes, but today it is popularly used for domestic water purification. The membrane will not permit impurities to pass through, and thus the water will be clean. It is a very powerful method; however, it is sensitive to chlorine. Under normal conditions, this type of water has a lifespan of about 5 to 8 years.

UV Water Purification

Among the various water treatment methods, UV water purification is considered the most efficient and most cost-effective. It can eliminate various biological contaminants in the water.

UV Water Purification offers many benefits compared to other types of water treatments. Most of all, no chemicals will be left on the water and will not generate any by-product. Furthermore, it will not alter the pH, taste, and other properties of the water. Also, besides providing you with safe drinking water, it will not damage your plumbing and septic system.

The UV treatment is the ideal method for removing biological contaminants in waters, especially if you need additional filtration. You can also use it for other untreated water sources such as wells, lake water, rainwater, etc.

Regardless of what method you choose, whether distillation, reverse osmosis, or UV treatment, you must frequently change your filters. Keep in mind that poor maintenance could likely make your treatment ineffective.
