6 Things You Must Do After a Motorcycle Accident

There are few joys in life that compare to riding a motorcycle. Motorcyclists can enjoy a sense of freedom and exhilaration that are lost to other motorists.

Unfortunately, however, riding a motorcycle is more dangerous than driving a traditional vehicle. There are no seatbelts, airbags, or protective barriers. In the event of a motorcycle accident, you’re more likely to sustain serious injuries.

If you’ve been involved in a motorbike accident, you’re not alone. Keep reading for some sage motorcycle accident advice. Here are six things you must do following the accident.

1. Check Yourself for Injuries and Ensure Your Safety

First, quickly assess your injuries. If you’re severely injured, it might not be a good idea to move around once you’re out of harm’s way.

If possible, remove yourself from the middle of the road or anywhere you might be vulnerable to danger. If you’re okay, check on the other people involved in the accident and ensure their safety as well.

2. Call 911

Once you’ve eliminated the threat of future injuries or harm,  call 911 to report the accident. They’ll send police to come to investigate the scene.

However, stay on the line, as the operator will ask important questions to determine what types of emergency responders to send. For example, they might need to send an ambulance if there are any major injuries.

3. Exchange Information

Now it’s time to talk to the other motorist involved in the motorcycle accident. You need to exchange the necessary information with them. This includes:

  • Names and contact information
  • A description of their vehicle, including plate number
  • Insurance policyholder and contact information

You’ll need this information to file an insurance claim or pursue a personal injury claim.

4. Gather Evidence

After a motorbike accident, you need to start collecting evidence to successfully file an insurance claim. This includes pictures of your bike, as well as the other vehicle. You should also collect photos of the accident scene.

Additionally, take pictures of your injuries, damage to your motorbike helmet, etc. Lastly, talk to any witnesses in the area to get a witness statement. And remember to get their contact information.

5. Get Checked Out By a Doctor

After a motorcycle accident, it’s important to visit your doctor to get an official evaluation. You may have injuries from which you’ve yet to experience any symptoms. This is quite common in car accident injuries

Furthermore, official medical documentation will help you with your insurance claim and your lawsuit, should you decide to seek compensation for damages.

6. Talk to a Motorcycle Accident Attorney

Finally, reach out to a motorcycle accident lawyer to learn more about your rights, damages, and potential compensation amounts. A motorcycle accident attorney can help you if the insurance company isn’t playing ball or is offering a low settlement amount.

They can provide motorcycle accident advice, legal guidance, and more.

Have You Been Involved in a Motorcycle Accident?

If you’ve been involved in a motorcycle accident, don’t hesitate to reach out to a lawyer. If the accident wasn’t your fault, you shouldn’t be held liable for your medical bills or financial losses.
